The New Face of NY Tech Meetup
April 7th, 2011
Yesterday I was given the opportunity to attend my first NY Tech Meetup. The famed meetup group, created by Meetup CEO, Scott Heiferman, definitely lived up to its billing. With over 800 people in attendance at NYU’s Skirball Center and over 17,000 people in the meetup, it is by far the largest and most popular group on Meetup.com. There were even people scalping their tickets to the event minutes before it started. My favorite part about the event was the constant flow of ideas, suggestions and innovation. I found a number of app presentations intriguing and was even able to sign up for some beta-testing.
Consequently I was not the only new face at this NYTM. The event concluded with the announcement that Jessica Lawrence would be NY Tech Meetup’s new Managing Director. This new position gives NYTM a lot of flexibility in terms of managing multiple presentation requests and event planning. With such a large amount of people in the group, this move seemed inevitable.
